Book Report #2

I read the book “The Earth, My Butt and Other Big Round Things”What I learned from the book: Virginia is a fifteen year old girl that is over weight and is teased about it. Her best friend named Shannon, moved away to Walla Walla for the whole school year… leaving Virginia friend less for a whole year. Virginia continues to gain weight because she is depressed about her life. It’s not ok to eat when you feel depressed or when you feel bored. Eat only when you’re hungry. Also don’t feel bad about what you weigh because it’s just a number. I learned that if you feel like you are over weight that you should talk to someone about it. Virginia was depressed about her weight and she really needed someone to talk to and help support her through her struggle without Shannon. If she wasn’t so pressured about her weight, then it most likely would have been easier to survive at school and at home.

Alone at Ninety Foot

Conflict/Resolved: Pam is a girl battling high school without her mom. When Pam was nine years old her mom had her second child, and Pam’s sister; her name was April. When April was nine months old she died of the disease called Sid’s. Pam’s mom then went into a stage of depression. Her mother never wanted to do anything anymore. It was like Pam inherited a new, completely different mom. Two years ago, Pam’s mom jumped off at cliff at ninety foot. Her mother was so depressed about April that she committed suicide. She sadly died of her injuries. Pam and her mother always enjoyed beading and art together. Pam misses her mom because she feels like she has nobody to talk to. Pam has a friend named Joanne, but even she doesn’t always like to talk to her. She thinks that going to ninety foot helps calm her down and reminds her of when her mom and her used to take hikes there.
Pam’s dad is trying to get over his wife’s death. He finds a girlfriend named Jennifer. Jennifer is nerdy and likes the dress like at dork. Pam wasn’t’ all that crazy about her, but now she is getting to know her better.

How is the main character like you?

Alike: Pam and I are alike and different in many ways. Pam is a quiet kind of person who sometimes likes to go into nature and be by herself. I like to go biking by myself and enjoying nature just like her. Pam was shy when her English teacher, asked if she wanted to dance. I would never dance with a teacher and Pam didn’t want to either. We also are both quiet and talk little. Pam is a good listener when her friends have problems. I help and listen to my friends when they have a question. We both would rather listen to somebody talk then to talk ourselves. Different: Pam always wondered why her mom committed suicide instead of just getting some help and talking about it. Pam sometimes would blame herself and her dad for the mistakes that her mom made. I would have just accepted her death without pointing fingers at people. It would be a terrible feeling, but that gives her no right to blame people for what they never did. Pam would rather keep her mouth shut about things that happened to her instead of talking about it to someone.I would have told someone how I was feeling about my problems instead of keeping them bottled up inside. One day she could just crack from the pressure of keeping it bottled up. Those are some of the ways Pam and I are alike and different.

Book Rating

What would you rate this book and why? I would rate it about a 7-8. It was a good book but it wasn’t the best in history. I would give it this rating because I though the cover made the book look different then how I imagined. Although it was not the cover that made the book what it was. I’m not into bad happening books really. I wished that her mom didn’t commit suicide, but I guess that’s life. Now that I think about I’ll give it an 8.5 because it had a happy ending.

What I liked about the book

Twilight /Stephenie Meyer
What I liked about the book
There were many things I liked about Twilight. One of the things I liked was how Bella never seemed to address danger as danger. See would run around with a vampire, and the realization would never hit her. I wish I could be that fearless.
I liked the differences between Bella and Edward. Bella is just a normal clumsy girl from a small town. Edward is a vampire who could crash a mini van in one blow. They both can still exist together in the world with harmony. Edward is careful not to break Bella, I’m happy he can resist himself, even with quenching trust screaming in his throat.
Bella and Edward’s love is really intense through out the book. I book grabs attention by putting suspense into it. It made me keep reading. I always had to find out what Edward was going to do next, whether it was killing Bella or fighting the urge to kill.

Book Rating

How would you rate this book?
I would rate this book a 9 out of a scale of 1-10. The book was fantastic! I enjoyed the difficult love between Bella and Edward. These two people love each other but are surrounded by many complications. One problem is, Edward is a vampire and Bella is human. Edward is very mischievous. I liked how when you’re a vampire you have cool super powers. The book was adventurous. The action in Twilight was amazing. Bella didn’t even care if Edward was a vampire; she liked him for who he was. I thought I really didn’t like fantasy, but after I read Twilight, I loved it!

What character are you?

I think I’m most like Bella. Bella was raised to take care of her outrageous young mother with all her crazy ideas. She would help her mom veer away from her insane plans. Since I’m an only child I mostly take care of my parents. I do many things for them to make their life a little easier.

Bella is a klutz and I’m one too. When I’m at home I tend to crash into things.

Bella is not afraid of danger, but I certainly am. I would not face James alone in the dance studio. I wouldn’t even be there.

It seems all the boys try to fight over Bella. Mike Newton, Eric, Tyler, and Edward all want to take Bella to the prom. Bella doesn’t care for all the attention. Bella and I are more the background type of people.

Ways we are different:
Bella is not afraid to be alone with Edward; the vampire. I would be so scared if I were in Bella’s shoes. I would never want be alone with Edward. He might eat me! Bella always describes Edward as a goddess. He looks at Bella like she’s some kind of food to eat. If Edward stared at me like that, I wouldn’t go to school anymore.
Those are some of the ways I’m like the character Bella, and some ways I’m not.
