Book Report

Fever 1793
The book Fever 1793 had a plot line that made the book interesting. The book had a continuing plot of action, and suspense to help me keep reading. When Mattie’s mother suddenly turned ill, nobody though that it was yellow fever but I know she had gotten sick. The book reminded me of a guessing game. I had to guess what would happen next. Most of the time the book tricked me into thinking something would happen but really the total opposite would be the outcome. The book takes place in the late 1700s; I was hard for me to remember that it was that long ago and there were no modern day objects. The book helped tell the story of how yellow fever really happened. Even though this book is fiction, it helped show how the epidemic really was played out. People today think that it wasn’t an important matter, but back then there was no medicine to treat people and the doctors did not know how to handle a sick person without making them more sick. For example, in the 1700s and 1800s, a way to get ride of a disease was to bleed someone. Doctors though that was the answer, but truly that would only make someone more weak. Long ago people did not how to address a sickness or disease. I learned that today, we are lucky to have good medical help and assistance for diseases and sicknesses.
In the book, yellow fever is mostly what holds the plotline together. With the intro starting with a young girl named Mattie and a coffee shop full of dreams. When the epidemic happens that’s what helps show the disaster of it all. The book made me sad because often in the book, Mattie (the narrator) would describe the streets filled with dead bodies stained with yellow. Yellow fever was a disease that was almost incurable in the 1700s. The book helps inform people of the dilemma they never had to go through. The book helped me see how lucky I am to live in the modern world.
When I was reading this book, there was always a lot to follow. There would be a nice setting then all of a sudden the setting would be like an ocean filled with fifty foot waves. There was a lot to take in while reading. You had to read carefully to catch all the information. When Mattie and her grandfather where coming back from the camp, everything seemed like it would go better. While they were sleeping burglars broke into the house and tried to steal Mattie’s family’s valuables. Soon after the fight, her grandfather dies. The plot would soon change into something else. The way the book was planned out, made the book have a more entertaining story. With the suspense placed through out the book, to me, that helps keep my attention. Even though it was a sad book, the rising plot helped support the story.

Paragraph 1

The person that inspires me the most is my best friend Mackenzie.

Kenize always encourages me to follow what I want to do and not what

others tell me what to do. She taught me that I am the only one that

can make my decisions about my life but I also can get encouragement

from my friends, teachers, and parents. I learned that I should be

different and not what anybody else wants me to be. Mackenzie tries

to live life to the fullness. Whether having a bad day, getting a bad

grade on a test, or being teased, I should enjoy everyday that I’m on this earth and make the

best of my days. Soon in the future I will most likely wish I could go back to this day and age and

relive it. Now is a good idea to start living everyday to the fullest, so that I can look back and say

that I enjoyed my childhood.

If there were any character traits to describe Mackenzie it would be her kindness,

caring, loving self. Mackenzie shows that she has lots of kindness in her by helping with dinner

every night. She cooks a nice dinner for her mom and sister every night because she knows they

both had a hard day and would enjoy a good meal. Mackenzie is caring to her friends, family,

parents, and siblings. If I would ever have a bad day Mackenzie would give me a call and cheer

me up so that the next day I would feel all better. One of kenize’s strongest trait is her love for

others. She loves her twin sister, Paige and is always there to help, protect and comfort her.

They are very close and even though they fight often, I can always see the loving side of both of

them.

Paragraph 2

In the future there are some things I hope I can accomplish. I would like to finish my 3 years of

math at Apollo and maybe take another year of it to ensure that I would have a good acceptance

to a college. Finishing high school felt like something that I always new I could accomplish in life.

There is an option of dropping out but that’s not a good decision if I plan on going to college,

which I want to do. If I can finish my homework, get a good nights rest and have a good attitude

then I think those are the goals of success to finishing high school and my dreams.

Some character traits that would ensure me toward my success would be, doing my best.

Trying hard is a great strategy on tests and quizzes. If I can’t try hard and not care about the

test then it will be harder to succeed. If getting a bad grade on a test, instead of kicking myself

about it, I should figure out what I did wrong and learn from my mistakes. These character

traits can help with my achievement in life.

Paragraph 3

There are things in my life that feel like they are the goals to success. I will finish high

school and hoping I will finish college. I am hoping that what I major with in college, I will find a

job for later on. My goal is to be a teacher after finishing college. To do that I will defiantly need

to finish high school with good grades. In college I will need good degrees to find a well paying job

as a teacher. I know if I do well in school and am good at what I want to become, then I can do it.

If I believe in myself, my parents will believe in me and my friends too. With them encouraging

me, I believe I have the skills to get what it takes.

To help others succeed, my fraise would be “dream big so you can make it to the stars.” With

hard work, encouragement, goals, and a dream I think you can accomplish anything you set your

mind to. Having a good education can take you far in life. With the right attitude, it can

help support you.
